3 Thoughts On: Better Call Saul...What's Coming?

Let me just start by saying that this show will be good. There is however always the chance that it will suffer the Star Wars prequel disorder, in that, we know where it's going so nothing feels at stake (or is that the Titanic disorder?) Does the fact that we know Saul can't die and anyone not in Breaking Bad can, hurt the show? Will Saul be able to carry the show totally independent of any Bad cameos? Will the show come anywhere close to being Breaking Bad good? Early reviews are saying it is more than worthy, that said...
Prairie Dog Noooooooooo!!!!

Mike is Back:
Bringing Mike back into the fold is probably the best Breaking Bad nod Vince Gilligan could make. It means Vince won't be afraid to bring back Bad characters which is what we all want. Hopefully introducing Mike means Gus isn't far behind...fingers crossed. As far as mike goes, the fact that one of the teasers already has
him beating down Saul is a good indication that he won't be going through much character development (which is ok by me).

Saul's Name is Jimmy:
I don't expect Odenkirk to win an Emmy for this show (or do I?), but the fact that his name starts as Jimmy says character development to me. Which is a good thing, because when I first heard about this show possibly becoming a show... I was worried that it was going to be a little less Bad, and a little more NCIS (but with lawyers). However, we are destined to witness Saul's full range because...

In Vince Gilligan We Trust:
This isn't like those times when...
1. Ridley Scott came back and made Prometheus
2. George Lucas came back and made Star Wars 1-3
3. Chris Carter came back and made X-Files: I Want To Believe
4. Steven Spielberg came back and made Indiana Jones with Prairie Dogs...
Vince is a good thing. He started this show with Breaking Bad still fresh in his mind and an Emmy gleam in his eye...

While I've heard that one should be able to follow Better Call Saul without having seen Breaking Bad, I wouldn't recommend it. Catch up on the later fast because everything from the crappy motels (I'm sure there will be one...maybe with Wendy?) and Taco Cabeza (everything goes down there, remember?) to the clear blue New Mexico sky will feel like seeing old friends again.
